Aspiring High School Reporters Receive Free Training from Seasoned Professionals in New York Association of Black Journalists Annual 8-Week Workshop The New York Association of Black Journalistsʼ annual high school journalism workshop will be held September 27 to November 15, 2008. Juniors and seniors in New York City high schools are eligible to participate in this great opportunity to learn about the news business. The workshop, which has produced some of the countryʼs best young journalists, is held on consecutive Saturdays at the Brooklyn campus of Long Island University . At the end of the 8-week sessions, students will produce and star in a real-time newscast. In addition, the students will publish and run an online newsletter as well as publish a print newspaper with in-depth feature stories. Weekly guest speakers from major print, radio, and television outlets will also be on hand. Upon completion of the workshop, students will be presented with a certificate during a brunch ceremony attended by mentors and family members.

Workshop leaders: Angela Pruitt, financial reporter for Dow Jones Newswires will run the print workshop. The broadcast portion of the workshop will be conducted by Catherine McKenzie, news producer for WABC -TV.
