A Remix ManifestoFREE Screening & PanelFriday May 1st, 2009, 6:30 p.m.The Cooper Union Wollman Auditorium51 Astor Place (8th St. at 3rd Ave.)The New York Film/Video Council invites you to a free screening of Brett Gaylor's feature documentary RIP: A Remix Manifesto, followed by a panel discussion including director Gaylor in attendance. In RIP, which made it's North American debut at SXSW earlier this year, Gaylor explores issues of copyright in the information age, raising fundamental questions about the nature of creativity and commerce. The documentary features mash-up artist Girl Talk, Creative Commons founder Lawrence Lessig, Brazil's Minister of Culture Gilberto Gil, and pop culture critic Cory Doctorow. A participatory media experiment from day one, Gaylor shared his raw footage online throughout production, incorporating sequences remixed by other filmmakers, animators, and students into his final product.
